3000th
Fanuc control supplied to Studer and Siltronic
GE
Fanuc and Fritz Studer AG look back on a long and successful
business relationship. Earlier this year Fanuc was in a
position to supply Studer with its 3000th control unit. The
lucky Studer customer whose machine was fitted with this unit
was Siltronic from Burghausen, Germany.
All three
companies are internationally active, being market leaders in
their specific fields. Siltronic produces wafers made of pure
silicon, their partners being leading chip manufactures.
Wafers up to a diameter of 300mm are researched, designed and
manufactured in locations in Europe, Japan and USA. Silicon
wafers are the building blocks for micro, and nano
technologies, used in computers, mobile phones, internet, DVD
players, flat screens, navigation systems, airbags, computer
tomography, aircraft steering systems and many more. Siltronic
produces its wafers in five state of the art facilities and
distributes to a global network of end users.
The
new 300mm wafer production facility in Freiberg, Germany was
opened in June of this year and is currently the most modern
of its type in the world.
The largest
difficulty for Studer in this project with Siltronic was the
integration of a camera inside the machine. This camera was
modified and included in the software of the machine control.
It is utilised for the exact positioning of the grinding wheel
on the work piece. In addition a customer specific, windows
based, operating panel was developed.
Currently
the most successful Fanuc control system is the Fanuc 16. This
particular S40 from Siltronic is fitted with a Fanuc 160i
which features a PC and therefore ensures that the special
requirements of Siltronic are fulfilled.
The S40 is
the most successful of the Studer product range, having been
sold worldwide in excess of 700 times. |
