Invitation for Entries

Fritz Studer AG, one of the world's leading grinding machine manufacturers, headquarters in Thun, Switzerland, announces the Fritz Studer Research Prize for 2005.

This research prize addresses students and young graduates from universities, institutes of technology and advanced technical colleges in Europe, who have worked on scientific subjects in the course of their academic, bachelor, master and diploma studies or in their dissertations or key applied research topics, or who possess well founded initial results from their areas of research.

The entries must be devoted to one of the following areas:

  • Innovative machine concepts and components

  • Alternative materials in mechanical engineering

  • Simulation models of the dynamic and thermal behaviour of machine tools

  • Control and sensor concepts for machine tools

  • New or further developed manufacturing technologies, especially in extra-fine hard machining, such as grinding, hard turning, etc.

The submitted work should have the goal of putting forward feasible ideas that enhance the machine industry's power of innovation. By competing with their ideas in this contest, young scientists and engineers can also find a platform for their creative approaches. An individual or a research team will be awarded the prize. The Fritz Studer Research Prize is CHf 10,000.

All entries for the Fritz Studer Research Prize must be submitted by September 30th  2005. The prize award will take place during the Studer MOTION-meeting in February 2006.
