KÖRBER SCHLEIFRING acquire the machine tool sector of WALTER
AG, Tübingen.
 Subject to
antitrust authority approval, KÖRBER SCHLEIFRING GmbH will
acquire the machinery sector from WALTER AG, which was
separated a few weeks ago under the name of WALTER
Maschinenbau GmbH. The production company WALTER Kurim s.r.o.
in the Czech Republic, WALTER Grinders Inc. in the USA and
WALTER Japan KK have also been acquired. The machines sector
of WALTER AG has a workforce of 388.
The Machine
Tool Division of
Körber AG, the SCHLEIFRING Group,
specializes in the manufacture of grinding machines and is one
of the leading companies worldwide in this industry. The
purchase of WALTER Maschinenbau GmbH enables the SCHLEIFRING
Group to systematically broaden its range of services, thereby
consolidating its position as a leading supplier in the tool
grinding sector as well.
The
combination of WALTER Maschinenbau GmbH and EWAG AG, which has
been part of the SCHLEIFRING Group since 2000, will in future
enable two companies in the Group to concentrate on the
manufacturing of tool grinding machines whose product ranges
complement each other ideally.
The companies
in the Schleifring Group operate independently and on their
own authority in their respective business sectors, and will
continue to do so in future too. WALTER Maschinenbau GmbH will
continue to develop, produce and sell grinding and measuring
machines at its Tübingen site and will sign a long-term lease
for the office space there. Its sites in Hanover-Garbsen,
Kurim (Czech Republic) and Fredericksburg (USA) will also be
retained and will benefit from the collaboration within the
Schleifring Group.
In addition
to the staff from the production plants, approx. 80 employees
from WALTER AG's global sales subsidiaries will continue to
work in the machinery sector. For customers of WALTER machine
tools and measuring machines, this means all their usual
contacts will stay the same.
The
individual companies in the SCHLEIFRING Group achieve
considerable synergistic effects due to similar technologies –
the ideal springboard to propel the WALTER machinery sector to
successful new heights for the benefit of customers worldwide.
